ONE ADDRESS FOR ALL FAMILY PHYSICIANS AND COLLABORATING HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS
The Hub will provide the region’s communities with a comprehensive health services destination to help solve the high unfulfilled demand for primary care in the region. The purpose-built facility will increase efficiency, continuity, and coordination of primary care services according to best practices predicated by the Ontario Ministry of Health.
The Hub facility is designed accordingly, housing the group medical clinic on a full floor of the building, and the OVFHT nearby on a floor above, with their interdisciplinary team members. 35,000 square feet remain available for other interprofessional health care providers.
The second-floor medical clinic’s family physicians’ group currently numbers 16, to grow to 20. Daily patient visits to the clinic will number at least 300 on initial occupancy. That will increase substantially through the high efficiency working environment of the group clinic setting and the support of Family Health Team personnel including Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Practical Nurses, with expectations to surpass 500 patient visits per day.
“The Hub will greatly enhance interprofessional collaboration. There’s nothing better than being able to walk down a hallway to ask something in person. I see this in the hospital when talking with specialists. You can get more in one minute of doing that than in a three-page consult sometimes.” Dr. James Fullerton, Physician Lead, Hub medical clinic

A TRUE REGIONAL DESTINATION FOR PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES
The Hub’s site is mere blocks from Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital.
The Hub’s site is located within Carleton Place’s Health Services Development Zone, an area designated to facilitate the anchoring of world-class connected and convenient health care for west regional Ottawa.
WHY IS CARLETON PLACE FOR SUCH AN IMPORTANT HEALTH CARE DESTINATION?
Demographics, Access and Reach:
- West regional Ottawa has seen significant growth over the last decade. The area’s average annual growth rate is 1.7%, well exceeding the Canadian average. Growth within the region is concentrated in Carleton Place, Mississippi Mills, and Beckwith. In fact, Carleton Place has been Canada’s fastest-growing census area for four years straight, with a growth rate of 3.7% or more. This trend is expected to continue for at least 20 years, with Carleton Place alone anticipating a 97% increase in population during the period. A significant part of that growth is migration of young families.
- Carleton Place is on Highway 7, the main thoroughfare through the Ottawa west region.
- It’s the first town outside of the Ottawa Census Metropolitan Area going west.
- It has regional destination status and multi-directional ease of reach being at the junction of Highways 7, 29 & 15.
- Commutes to the region’s surrounding towns are under 30 minutes.
- It’s regional status is witnessed by its formidable retail presence, including big box stores.
- Population reach within a 40 Km radius of the Hub is nearly 600,000.
- Driving commutes within that radius remain under 30 minutes.
“In regional and suburban settings, patient travel times to visit primary care providers can be lengthy, and that’s compounded if multiple services are needed; the Hub’s address is central to a very wide region, and mostly accessible by highway. And then, by including multiple primary health care providers in the one facility, patients can receive convenient and connected care at a single site.”
